[Paper Measurement]

If printing paper is not set properly, it may cause a finishing error.

[Paper Measurement] measures target paper using the optional Intelligent Media Sensor IM-104 and Intelligent Media Sensor IM-105 even if the type, weight, or size of the paper loaded in a paper tray is not known, thereby enabling you to easily configure the appropriate paper setting.

• To use this function, setting may be required to be carried out by a customer engineer (CE). For details, contact your service representative.

The following options are required to use the [Paper Measurement] function.

• Intelligent Media Sensor IM-104
• Intelligent Media Sensor IM-105 (When measuring the paper size)

NOTICE

[Paper Measurement] measures paper fed from one of the following options.

• Paper Feeder Unit PF-712
• Paper Feeder Unit PF-713
• Paper Feeder Unit PF-812
• Multi Bypass Tray MB-511
• Banner Paper Tray Unit MK-760

Tips

• In [Paper Measurement], measure the paper type, weight, and size.

Tips

• A measurement result or paper profile that does not fit the selected paper tray is not able to be selected.

Tips

The following types of paper are judged by Intelligent Media Sensor IM-104. For example, if colored paper is measured, it is judged to be fine paper.

• Plain
• Fine
• Coated (Glossy paper)
• Coated (Matte paper)

Tips

• The correct measurement results may not be obtained for special paper such as transparent paper, transparency (OHP), vapor-deposited (YUPO) paper, metallized paper, metallic paper, colored paper, and textured paper.

Tips

• If paper with a length close to the upper limit of the standard size (lengthwise 487.7 mm / 19.20" or less) in the paper feed direction is loaded into a banner paper compatible option such as the Paper Feeder Unit PF-812, the Intelligent Media Sensor IM-105 detects the paper as the banner size (lengthwise 487.8 mm / 19.20" or more), which may reduce productivity. To prevent this reduction in productivity, set the paper size manually.

Select the paper tray to measure the paper.

Press [Change Set].

• Press [Reset] to return the current settings to the default.

• If you want to use custom-size paper when the settings do not allow paper size measurement, set the custom paper size before measuring. For details about the setting method, refer to Setting Procedure (Setting the Custom Paper Size).

• Press [OK] to return to the [Paper Setting] screen.

Press [Paper Measurement].

The [PRINT MODE] screen is displayed.

Press Start on the Control panel.

Paper is measured and output from the Purge tray of Intelligent Media Sensor IM-104.

To apply the paper size measurement result, select [Apply Size] and press [Apply to Tray].

The measurement results are reflected in the paper tray, and the paper settings are changed.

• Each time [Change Unit] is pressed, the weight unit is switched.

Tips

• Before pressing [Apply to Tray], check the contents of [Paper Type], [Weight], and [Paper Size] displayed.
• If you select [Apply Size] and apply the measurement result to the paper tray, the paper size is set to [Custom]. To set it as [Standard], select [Do Not Apply Size].
• If there is a large deviation between the measured paper size and the actual measured paper size used, perform [Media Sensor Adjustment] - [Size Detec. Sens. Init. Adj.].

Press [Exit PrintMode] to close the [PRINT MODE] screen.

Tips

• When setting items other than [Paper Type], [Weight], and [Paper Size], do so manually.
• If you selected [Apply Size] in step 5 and have set the paper size on the Image Controller, a mismatch in the paper size settings occurs between the machine and the Image Controller. Clear the paper size setting on the Image Controller or reread the paper tray information.

A user profile or preset profile candidate that matches the paper type is displayed based on the paper measurement results.

You can select a profile from the candidates and apply it to the paper tray.

Perform Setting Procedure (Measuring the Paper Type, Weight, and Size).

Press [Potential Profiles].

Press [User Profile] or [Preset Profile].

Select a paper profile.

• Select from the displayed candidates.

• You can press [Confirm Details] to confirm the detailed setting of the selected paper profile.

Tips

• Even a paper brand registered in a preset profile may not be displayed as a candidate for the paper profile depending on the environment or paper conditions.

Press [Apply to Tray].

The selected paper profile is reflected in the [Paper Tray] field on the [MACHINE] screen.

Press [Close] to close the [Potential Profiles] screen.

Tips

[Potential Profiles] is hidden when

• setting data has been reset;
• any setting of [Paper Type], [Weight], [Paper Size], and [Colored Paper] has been changed; or
• [New Setting] has been used for setting.
