Perfect Binding: Printing in the Cover Print 2 in 1 Mode

Mount Perfect Binder PB-503, and perform perfect binding for a PDF document with 32 pages in the Cover Print 2 in 1 mode.

In this section, you can check how to finish the printed document while actually operating with sample data (sample A).

•Example Introduced in This Section

  • Mount Perfect Binder PB-503 to the main body. (Refer to Using Perfect Binder PB-503.)

  • Load the paper for the cover in a main body tray. Here, the explanation assumes that the paper for the cover has been loaded in the main body Tray 2.

Cover paper size: Custom (Widthwise 307 mm Lengthwise 430 mm / Widthwise 12.09" Lengthwise 16.93")

Check the finishing of the printed document, then make adjustments with reference to the link if needed.

•Recommended Combination

  • Stamp: You can insert Date/Time, Page Number and Copy Number in each page at the time of printing. [Stamp] tab of the printer driver. Refer to Stamp.)

  • 1-sided or 2-sided print on a page basis: You can set 1-sided or 2-sided print for each page. ([Page Setting] tab of the printer driver. Refer toPage Setting.)

Set the following items in the printer driver.

  • When setting in the printer driver, make sure that there are no previous settings left in each item in the tabs [Layout], [Finishing], [Cover], etc.

Displaying properties

  1. Open the original data with the application, and then click [Print] on the [File] menu.

    Sample A (A_sample.pdf) is used in this example.

  2. Select the printer to use for printing and click [Properties].

Setting body sets

  1. Click the [Layout] tab, and then set the following items.

  2. Click the [Paper] tab, and then click [Acquire Tray and Paper Data].

    When the tray and paper data is acquired, a green checkmark is displayed.

    • If the tray and paper data could not be acquired, a red x checkmark is displayed. Check if the paper tray for Option is correctly mounted.

  3. Select the tray loaded with the papers for the body sets in [Paper Tray], and then click [OK].

    • Use papers of 62 g/m2 to 105 g/m2 / 16 lb Bond to 28 lb Bond for the body sets for perfect binding.

    Example: Here, the explanation assumes that papers (A4: Long Edge) have been set in [Tray 1].

Setting cover

  1. Click the [Cover] tab, and then set each item of [Perfect Binding].

    • Click [Custom Size], and then enter the paper size.

    • Use papers of 81 g/m2 to 216 g/m2 / 22 lb Bond to 57 lb Bond for the cover paper for perfect binding.

Output

  1. On the [Print] screen, enter the [Copies] and click [OK].

    Printing starts. When the printing is completed, go to "Checking the finishing" and check the finishing of the printed document.

    For the output tray for perfect binder, refer to Making Perfect-Bound Booklets and Taking Out Perfect-Bound Books from Perfect Binder Tray.

Checking the finishing

Check the finishing of the printed document. Check the following items, and then make adjustments if needed.

Check the cover lead edge

Is the left cover lead edge displaced with reference to the body sets in perfect binding mode?

Check the position of the spine corner forming

Is the spine of the cover uniform with reference to the scanning direction without curling up or caving in when perfect-binding?

Check the cover alignment width

Is there any displacement, unevenness or misalignment in the body sets in perfect binding mode?

Check the cover alignment position

Is there any misalignment between the body sets and cover in the direction perpendicular to the feed direction in perfect binding mode?

Check the image quality

Are the image quality and colors stable without any fluctuation?

-> The image quality and colors are unstable: Carry out the corrective operations

In case of the following symptoms, carry out the corrective operations.

  • Each position of YMC colors does not match with each other

  • The image is grainy or has small dots or white spots

  • A white line appears at the same position
