There are four common wireless standards based on the 802.11, or Wi-Fi, standard. Check the documentation that came with your printer or wireless options card to determine which standards your printer supports.
The maximum range for various standards will vary depending on the type of equipment used. Obstructions and interference will reduce the maximum range, while networks with specialized access points (wireless routers), such as those with multiple antennas, will increase the range of the network.
Mixing high-data rate standards with low-data rate standards will prevent the network from reaching the fastest data throughput rates.
Maximum data rate—54 Mbps
Maximum indoor range—Approximately 100 feet (30 meters)
Compatibility—Only compatible with other 802.11a devices
Interference—Less prone to radio frequency interference, but has difficulty penetrating walls and other solid objects
Note: | The 802.11a standard is not supported by the printer. |
Maximum data rate—11 Mbps
Maximum indoor range—Approximately 100 feet (30 meters)
Compatibility—802.11g, most 802.11n devices
Interference—Prone to interference from other wireless devices, appliances, cordless phones, and other sources of radio frequency interference due to the frequency it uses
Maximum data rate—54 Mbps
Maximum indoor range—Approximately 100 feet (30 meters)
Compatibility—802.11b, most 802.11n devices
Interference—Prone to interference from other wireless devices, appliances, cordless phones, and other sources of radio frequency interference due to the frequency it uses
Maximum data rate—dependent on wireless equipment (the printer supports up to 75 Mbps)
Maximum indoor range—Approximately 160 feet (50 meters)
Compatibility—802.11b, 802.11g
Interference—Less prone to radio frequency interference and obstruction by solid objects
